I am a soulful girl. After all, I was raised on vinyl records (although it was the 80’s), the creative genius of Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, The Queen of Soul, Lionel Richie and so many others. Then the 90’s spawned and I was jammin’ to Mary J. Blige, Boyz II Men, Jodeci, Aaliyah, and so many other artists who simply exhibited classic urban R &B. Yet, as we grow older we find that the things we like, slowly shift and we began to taste foreign delicacies. Whether it be in the realm of fashion, art, food, or music; what was once strange to us transform itself into a treat and then a staple on our list of likes and dislikes. For me, country music has climbed my long list ‘let me try it just once in my lifetime’ treats.
I love Taylor Swift’s quirky lyrics, have a fondness for Shania Twain, can jam to the belting vocal of Carrie Underwood and sway to the smooth tone of Blake Shelton. However, my new found loves are country music stars The Band Perry. I first heard them as they performed at the Grammy’s (at least I think it was the Grammy’s…) It was evident that after their song, although clapping, most persons in the audience had no idea who they were. I know I didn’t. However, there was something completely endearing about their performance. Maybe it was the melody or maybe it was the story. Whatever it was, I know that something inside of me was moved and I just had to hear them again. So I began to listen and have been completely drawn into their mellow sound. So, here is my tribute to The Band Perry. Take a listen:
