I have been learning French. It dawned on me as an adult that I wanted to learn a new language. As a traveler I am always fascinated by different cultures. From their fashion to their food, I feel like a child when exploring. Inquisitive and curious all the while wanting to know how different we live, yet how similar we truly are.
Besides the grammatical, masculine, feminine, conjugation of verbs, I wanted to breathe French. I don’t hear too much as an American learner (my family and many of my friends all communicate with my in English). Thus, I had to find another avenue of listening; another means of learning. What better way to do so than through the arts.
An African friend of mine graciously provided me with some French music. Although I listen to just about anything, R & B and soul music resonates within me. So, I needed to find a familiar sound resting upon words that I do not yet understand. Through his collection I found Corneille. This French (and English) artist moves me. I find that his sound is familiar although his words are not. Take a listen to how I learn French.
